Xbox: HDMI Audio Fix, Halo Wars Demo Out

The Microsoft team has finally addressed an issue which had been bugging a plethora of users following the New Xbox Experience launch at the end of last year. All Xbox Live members have been forced to install the update, which Major Nelson says will fix the HDMI audio. Users had complained about audio being delivered via HDMI not working after the update. This update was required to use Xbox Live across all regions.
Additionally, the much anticipated Halo Wars demo was unleashed a few days ago on the Xbox Live Marketplace. The RTS, based twenty years before the events in Combat Evolved, is the first non-FPS game for the Halo franchise. It’s also bittersweet, as it will be Ensemble Studios’ last game, as the game developer was recently given the axe by parent Microsoft. It’s no surprise, then, that this game rocks. Anyone familiar with Ensemble’s superb Age of Empires series knows how intuitive and easy to manage the game is will instantly feel at home with Halo Wars. In my demo play-through, the basic tutorial was all I needed to get right into the action, and it’s an extremely short one. It makes the genre feel right at home on the console, something that hasn’t been done successfully until now. In the short playthrough, the game already adds loads to the backstory of the serieas, and the cinematic sequences are nothing short of amazing. All Xbox owners with access to the demo need to go out and add it to their queue. Here’s a nice link for you. The official release is February 26th to Japan, Februrary 27th to Europe/PAL regions, and March 3rd to North America.
