Feature: IGN vs Gamespot Redesigns: Homepage

Gamespot recently redid their website to a wider, more aesthetically pleasing design. IGN, not to be left out in the cold, also redid their page. This is big in the video game industry, as you can see in the Alexa rank graphs below- IGN and Gamespot obliterate the nearest competition. Gamespot is ranked 148th, IGN following at 163rd, and 1UP, its closest competitor, quite far behind at 1,613th. GamesRadar is 1,617th. In my review, I’ll be looking at three different pages: home page, forums, and game review pages. In each, I’ll be totaling up point values in three categories: ad placement, aesthetics, and content (except for forums). Each section will have an image, with the advertisements in bright green and inlinks in purple for easy reference. As an interesting note before we start, IGN and Gamespot have big roller parents who are also extremely competitive- News Corp for IGN (Fox) and CBS Interactive for Gamespot. These posts will be spread out over a week span, so stay tuned for the following rounds.
